canvas work...true mixed media

I am working on a likeness of my daughter, I started out with pastels (they are cheap and I didn't like the look) then went to watercolors but can't get the shading I want. so now I am going to try some watery acrylics - it's a true mixed media piece huh.

Anyway thought I would post and look for critique!

Oh it's been to long

I can't believe it has been so long since I have posted here! I love the interaction of the Facebook page so I think I spend more time there.

I have been busy creating some video tutorials - they are posted on the website here

I made a link bracelet and I demonstrate how to create a wrapped loop used to make a link bracelet.

Art Explorations Group

I have been asked to take over the Yahoo group Art Explorations and I accepted! The group has been a tad bit quite lately and I hope to change that. You know I can't stay quiet for too long!

There is a sign up for the group to the right. I have challenged all group members to show what they can do with fall leaves. Real or not. If you would like to join in on some fun and sharing please sign up.

If we get enough action with this challange we will have a sponsored challenge with a $10 shopping gift certificate next month.

Happy 5th Birthday to Crafter's Cafe!!!

I can not believe that it has been 5 years since I opened the doors to the cafe! Technically we opened the weekend after labor day - but if any of my early followers remember the construction in the shopping center I don't even count the first weeks. In fact I would really like to forget it. From windows being boarded up by the construction company, oh and the lady that they "locked" in my store when they poured fresh concrete in-front of my door and we couldn't get out - without notice of course!

Well we put that behind us and and had a wonderful Grand-Opening on the 15th! We had free food samples, mmm is anyone missing my Cream of Crab Soup??? We also had many fabulous artists volunteer to help with make and takes of all kinds. Senator Kathy Klausmeier stopped by and presented me with a Official Citation from the Senate of Maryland.

There are two people that I can not leave out of my trip down memory lane. One is my trusted employee Erin - oh look at how young she looks. Erin is now attending Salisbury State University and is sure to go on to wonderful things. I am not sure what I would have done all those years without her. The other is my daughter Jenny. She has grown up with me owning businesses. At the cafe she bussed tables, washed dishes, swept floors, restocked supplies and once waited a table or two. Here is a pic of her when we first opened - boy has she grown. I would pick her up from school and she would say that she had to go to work and make money. Actually it was "gotta go work, make money, buy toys" we still kid her about that today!

Over the years we had some wonderful artists teach at the cafe - two of my all time favorites are Lynne Ann Swarzenberg and Maureen Carlson. Such wonderful teachers and people. I did my share of teaching also, from hand painted silk scarves, polymer clay, jewelry making and lots and lots of kids classes. And the Red Hat Ladies - who can forget the Red Hat Ladies! What a hoot.

After three years of running the cafe, craft room and selling retail products it was time to simplify my life. I made the hard decision to lease the kitchen to another person. Well - lets not dwell on that bad decision... nuff said. After that disaster I sold the cafe and put my efforts into the virtual world of the internet. Learning HTML and Web-design oh my - it took some time but look at where Crafter's Cafe is now. I am so pleased with the variety of products that we are selling and I add to the inventory every month.

This journey is not finished - it has really only begun. I love what I do - I love giving the best service possible to my wonderful customers. I now have a beautiful home studio for teaching classes. Being able to do what I do is truly a blessing and I appreciate everyone that has helped me along the way. So as a final note I would like to send a special big thank you to; My Mom, Jenny, Erin, Ivy, Elizabeth, Harry, Cindy, Cecilia and all of you that have helped me spread the word about Crafter's Cafe. Without all of you I could not be realizing my dream. Thank you all again for making the past five years possible.
